When kid #1 came along, my parents gifted me a 35mm film camera. (I'm thinking it was a hint). I'd had learned a bit about photography earlier while in college, my sister was a year behind and majored in Fine Arts Photography, so my photos weren't too bad.
Less than 3 years later, we moved literally to the other side of the world and I simultaneously realized I would be traveling a lot, and to places I would probably never see again. So I bought myself a proper SLR. I bought a telephoto zoom, because that's what you do. I bought a super-wide angle, to capture the grand vistas. And I learned a lot from all the boring photos that I took.
It's now 35+ years, 6 cameras, and a ton of experience later.
My goal was, and remains:
Take a pretty picture
Hopefully it's interesting and unique
Have the viewer see something like I saw it
And maybe really "see" something that they've always looked right past before
That's the photography part.
But I also wrote.
Poetry in high school, and later in college. It was my "Writing Certificate" (sort of like a minor). But for majors, after a starting in Nuclear Engineering with plans to I'd switch to chemical engineering, I instead ended up with a major in Political Science. Lots more writing...and opinions, lots of opinions :)
Thank you for visiting and I hope you like the view from Porchville.
